A vinyl compound is any organic compound that contains a vinyl group. Vinyl groups (formula -CH=CH2) are derivatives of ethene, CH2=CH2, with one hydrogen atom replaced with some other group. An industrially important example, is vinyl chloride, a plastic commonly known as "vinyl" as used for making gramophonic records.
And it does sound better. Not to speak of the covers. Lush.

Vinyl collections have a comforting appearance, the display of multicolored spines neatly racked up next to each other, the bulk of 1000s of records each a piece of art in its own right. Music for pleasure. My pleasure is punk & hardcore. From early proto punk of the 60s via classic 1976 sound and 90s Epitaph/Fatwreck/CRUZ to NYHC, pretty much everything.
